Interesting wakizashi made by Yaguchi Nakasuke who seems to have been an unrecorded maker. Kobusho was a bujutsu training dojo established in 1856 by the Tokugawa to train Tokugawa Bakafu retainers and their sons. The Kobusho taught Kenjutsu , Sojutsu, Hojustsu Kyujutsu, and Jujutsu. The Kobusho closed in 1866 and later became a Hojutsu dojo.
The Kobusho was located in the present day Kanda district in Tokyo.
The blade is forged in the unokubi zukuri style with naginata hi and sohi active very hamon. Nice heavy solid blade typical of this period. The blade has some small kitae kizu. Mounted in very nice quality koshirae. Excellent fuchi kashira of plum blossom in shakudo and gold. Very well carved sukashi Nami / wave tsuba, saya is black urushi with maru ni shiho kamon, with some small nicks and scratches. Comes with NTHK NPO certificate.
This is a very interesting historically important wakizashi from the Bakumatsu period a very important period in Samurai history signaling the end of the Samurai and Tokugawa shogunate rule moving into imperial rule of the Meiji Emperor.
